The backyard is large and perfect for children and animals; we do not use RoundUp, pesticides, or insecticides as we enjoy pollinators visiting.
Guest access
Everything, but please be extra mindful in the unfinished basement.
Other things to note
This is a no-frills house, but we work hard to make sure it is convenient, clean, and comfortable and that it offers most amenities that you may need for a pleasant stay.
Yard is always kept manicured and clear of clutter, but snakes are always a concern in this area. Please be mindful and watch your steps.
The black bear population is also increasing, and sightings around town and in the neighborhood are possible.
Here are Humane Society's guidelines for an encounter with a black bear:
Stand and face the bear directly. Never run away from or approach him.
Make yourself look as big as possible by spreading your arms or, better yet, a coat.
Make as much noise as possible by yelling, banging pots and pans, or using other noisemaking devices.
If the bear approaches and you have bear spray, spray the bear as he approaches.
In the very rare case that a black bear does attack you, fight back (don’t play dead).
After the bear leaves, remove whatever attracted him to the location (barbecue grill, bird feeder, pet food, or garbage).
Eco bug sprays are provided for guest use for an occasional bug. Please note that we do not spray RoundUp, insecticides, or pesticides in or around the property. We want to make sure that children and pets are safe and to do our part in making sure the environment rebalances itself.
(One exception to this general rule is that we had to treat yellow jackets in late August of 2022, for there was a population in the front yard).
The house is sanitized, and all known entry points are sealed to prevent critters from coming and settling indoors, but you will occasionally encounter an insect. The kitchen and bathroom were sanitized and/or bleached, and all individual items in the home were washed prior to being placed in operation so there is nothing in the house that should draw insects in. Please promptly dispose of any and all food waste in the trash bins. Many thanks!
Camera disclosure: Ring doorbell and camera on the front door primarily for safety.
